An Amazon FBA return needs a separate decision from the customer refund. The seller must determine where the unit is, its recorded condition, which recovery options are available in the relevant marketplace and whether moving it back to China is worthwhile and permissible.
Do not assume that a seller based in China must physically repatriate every returned item. Equally, a removal request is not proof that goods have arrived at an authorized receiving address.
Identify the inventory status and available program
Review the account’s current return and inventory records for the relevant marketplace. Separate customer returns, unfulfillable stock, stranded inventory and goods affected by other restrictions. Similar-looking dashboard balances can require different actions.
Amazon’s FBA overview describes inventory removal and recovery options. Availability, fees and eligibility must be confirmed for the seller’s actual account, product and market before choosing a route.
Record the intended outcome for each SKU or population. Leaving the decision as “deal with returns later” can accumulate storage cost and make it harder to reconstruct what happened to a batch.
Compare recovery before ordering a physical move
Possible routes include an eligible Amazon recovery program, removal to a separately appointed provider, or an authorized movement to China. The physical receiving address must be established before requesting removal.
Amazon Grade and Resell is one example of a program for eligible returned inventory. It does not mean all categories, markets or account situations qualify, or that a third-party warehouse can apply Amazon’s condition decisions independently.
FulfillNexa’s overseas delivery handoff points cannot serve as a local return or inspection address. Any destination-based receiver would need to be independently appointed by the seller. Work at a China site also needs prior product and service acceptance.
Reconcile removal requests to actual receipts
Preserve the removal reference, marketplace, SKU, expected quantity and receiving instructions. Track packages and deliveries without assuming the removal request will travel as one complete shipment.
At receipt, record the unit identities, quantities, condition and discrepancies. Link the received goods back to their removal records. A mixed carton containing several seller SKUs should not become one undifferentiated inventory total.
Open shortages or substitutions as exceptions with supporting evidence. Keep their financial effect separate from the physical condition assessment so an expected reimbursement does not cause missing units to appear as recovered stock.
Model return-to-China economics
For an illustrative batch of 100 units, assume 70 can be recovered and their expected future net contribution before reverse-logistics work is $12 each. That creates $840 of potential recovery under the assumptions.
If return transport and import handling are modeled at $350, examination at $150 and approved repacking at $100, the remaining recovery is $240. These are invented decision inputs, not quoted rates or measured recoverability.
Compare that result with the value and cost of an eligible alternative. Include uncertain taxes, product restrictions and the chance that more units fail examination. A positive spreadsheet result cannot authorize movement of goods that the receiving or compliance process has not accepted.
Reinspect before creating new saleable stock
Assess identity, completeness, condition, packaging and any relevant functional or safety questions under an approved instruction. Keep doubtful units on hold. Refurbishment or technical repair may require separate authorization and competence.
Decide the sales channel and condition before relabeling. A used unit should not be blended with new inventory simply because its barcode can be scanned. For goods returning to FBA, follow the current account-specific shipment and preparation requirements rather than reusing an old label file.
Close the recovery batch by reconciling requested removals, received units, held stock and authorized outcomes. The seller should be able to trace the financial recovery to identifiable units and documented decisions, including those that could not be resold.
