A photograph of an electronic product cannot establish the battery information needed for transport review. The battery may be internal, supplied separately or absent from the package.
IATA's battery guidance distinguishes battery types and packing configurations. Qualified assessment must use the applicable current requirements and the actual contents of the consignment.
Collect a usable battery review file
Use one record for each product and battery configuration. Ask the manufacturer for the exact model identification, chemistry, relevant electrical specifications and supporting transport-test information. Identify whether batteries are alone, packed with equipment or contained in equipment. Keep the proposed package quantity and transport mode visible to the qualified reviewer.
If a document identifies a different battery model, return the discrepancy to the supplier. A similar-looking product photograph should not be used to bridge that mismatch.
Separate the review budget from carriage acceptance
For a fictional intake workload, assume seven product configurations need 15 minutes of document matching each. At a chosen coordination cost of US$28/hour, the model is $49. If two mismatches each require another ten minutes, that adds about $9.33, giving $58.33 of modeled review work.
These numbers are hypothetical workload and cost inputs. They do not price a dangerous-goods assessment, testing, packing or carriage, and they do not predict approval. Those tasks require their own qualified scope and actual quotations.
Compare eligible options only
| Candidate movement | Question for the responsible specialist | Information needed before quoting |
|---|---|---|
| Direct parcel containing a battery product | Does the selected service accept this exact configuration? | Item identity, configuration, quantity and required evidence |
| Dangerous-goods air arrangement | Which current requirements and provider approvals apply? | Qualified review and approved packing and documentation scope |
| Ocean freight arrangement | What maritime requirements and carrier conditions apply? | Mode-specific review rather than an air approval copied across |
The buyer should compare price and schedule only after the relevant options are found acceptable. An unavailable option should not remain in the spreadsheet with an attractive guessed price.
Record the reviewed configuration, reviewer and resulting conditions before the warehouse releases stock to the shipping queue. If the supplier substitutes the battery or changes package contents, reopen the review. This process does not instruct untrained staff to classify or repack dangerous goods.
