A China 3PL technology stack should be selected by the decisions it must control: which stock can be sold, which order is released, which parcel was handed over and which exception remains unresolved. Buying software categories without assigning those responsibilities can create several conflicting versions of the same operation.

Map the intended workflow first. The discussion here evaluates possible architectures; it does not claim that FulfillNexa has installed particular software, robots or automated decision systems.

Assign a system of record to each decision

An ecommerce platform owns customer orders and store settings. A warehouse management system typically controls physical locations and warehouse tasks. An order-management layer may coordinate reservations and channel routing, while an ERP may hold purchasing and financial records. The final boundaries depend on the chosen implementation.

DecisionOwnership question to settle
Product identityWhich approved record defines SKU, variant and pack quantity?
Saleable stockWho excludes holds and existing commitments?
Order releaseWho authorizes physical work after validation?
Shipment confirmationWhich event and evidence permit confirmation?
Financial adjustmentWho approves write-offs, refunds and cost changes?

Name one authority for each decision and document how other systems receive its result. A second application should not silently become another writer because it has a convenient import button.

Compare a direct connection with an orchestration layer

A direct store-to-WMS connection can be easier to understand when there is one selling channel and a limited order flow. It still needs clear mappings, retry behavior and exception handling.

An orchestration layer may become useful when channels share stock, orders split across locations or the business needs one place to manage release decisions. It also creates another service to secure, monitor and reconcile. More layers do not automatically mean more control.

For an illustrative comparison, design A handles one store and one warehouse with five interfaces. Design B adds a central order layer and connects three stores. Count the interfaces, the decisions moved into the new layer and the failure modes it removes. Do not assess the options only by subscription price.

Evaluate the interface contract

Ask for actual field definitions and supported events. Confirm whether an integration exchanges orders, order lines, inventory snapshots, adjustments, fulfillment requests or carrier tracking. These objects cannot be substituted casually.

Webhook receivers also need verification and replay controls. Shopify’s delivery-verification documentation is one platform-specific reference; implementation must follow the current provider contract and authorized access scopes.

For visibility between organizations, GS1 EPCIS supplies a shared event standard. Using it can help align event meaning, but it does not guarantee that a partner captured the physical event correctly or delivered it promptly.

Include failures in the purchasing demonstration

Give vendors the same test pack. Include an unknown SKU, a duplicated order, a partial shipment, a cancellation after picking starts and a period without connectivity.

Observe what the operator sees and what records remain after recovery. A silent retry may look smooth while creating a second warehouse task. A visible exception with a clear resolution path can be operationally safer.

Require an export of the audit trail and master-data mappings. Check whether the business can identify its own records and retrieve them in a usable format if it changes providers. Data access should be established before dependence on a proprietary dashboard grows.

Compare total ownership cost

Add implementation, mapping changes, support coverage, monitoring, user training and incident recovery to the commercial comparison. Separate one-off work from recurring charges and specify which party pays when a marketplace changes its interface.

An inexpensive connector can be costly if every exception requires a developer. Conversely, a complex platform may add little value to a straightforward workflow. Use pilot results and the business’s actual exception mix to choose between them.

The final selection document should be a responsibility map with passing recovery tests and an agreed change process. Those are durable operating controls even when the software names or API versions change.
