Selecting a China warehouse for ecommerce requires matching the facility’s operating role to the supplier network, product constraints and order pattern. A current cost comparison then needs comparable quotations. An undated price table with no defined stock profile cannot establish a reliable 2026 benchmark.
Use the selection process to eliminate unsuitable operating arrangements before negotiating a lower unit rate.
Start with the work and the origin network
List supplier locations, inbound batch sizes, receiving frequency, expected inventory and outbound order types. Include the handling data needed for unusual products: final transport dimensions, weight, fragility, declared batteries or liquids, and manufacturer-approved storage instructions.
FulfillNexa’s confirmed China footprint is Shenzhen 3,000 m², Suzhou 13,000 m² and Dongguan 8,000 m², totaling 24,000 m². Shenzhen’s confirmed role includes oversized cargo and sea-air or air-sea transfer work; Suzhou supports East China supplier consolidation; Dongguan focuses on ecommerce warehousing and one-piece fulfillment. These roles describe operating locations, not guaranteed capacity or automatic product acceptance.
A buyer should still confirm the actual receiving location and workflow for the proposed program. Choosing a site solely because it is closest to a port can increase supplier transfers or complicate order execution.
Evaluate control points with evidence
Ask the warehouse to demonstrate one receiving record, one inventory hold, one customer order and one shipment reconciliation using an approved sample dataset. Redact unrelated customer information rather than requesting a client list.
| Control point | Useful evidence |
|---|---|
| Receipt identity | Purchase-order and carton references tied to counted quantities |
| Stock segregation | Visible held, damaged and saleable states |
| Product traceability | SKU, variant and lot or serial references where required |
| Order execution | Approved instruction through picking and packing |
| Dispatch | Parcel-to-order mapping and agreed handoff evidence |
The GS1 Logistic Label Guideline explains logistics-unit identification. A warehouse need not use every GS1 component for every program, but its proposed identities must remain consistent through receipt, repacking and release.
Build a quotation profile that vendors can price
Provide the same assumptions to each candidate: expected monthly receipts, pallet or carton configuration, average and peak stock, order count, lines per order, packaging requirements and expected exceptions.
Request a dated quote with currency, tax treatment, minimum charges, validity and exclusions. Separate receiving, storage, picking, additional lines, packing materials, labels, dispatch and nonstandard work.
If one quotation uses daily occupied pallet positions and another uses a monthly reserved allocation, compare their calculated bills for the same stock curve. A flat monthly inventory total will not reveal the cost of a brief seasonal peak.
Treat cost benchmarks as defined samples
For an illustrative stock profile, a business occupies 20 pallet positions for 20 days and 50 positions for ten days. The month contains 900 pallet-position days. A daily-occupancy offer and a 50-position reserved-space offer charge against different quantities even before their rates are compared.
A defensible benchmark should state the quote date, operating region, included services and stock profile. Without that information, a supposed “China average” mixes unlike services. No market-average rate or savings percentage is established by this guide.
Include the seller’s retained work and expected exceptions. A low warehouse quote can be offset by repeated manual order corrections or undocumented packaging charges.
Check the facility conditions and transition plan
Review loading access, goods movement, storage configuration and the handling of incompatible or restricted products. The US OSHA warehousing overview identifies useful general hazard categories, while the facility’s actual assessment must follow applicable China requirements.
Bonded, temperature-controlled or specialist dangerous-goods capability needs separate evidence and acceptance. It should not be inferred from a general ecommerce service description.
Finish with a controlled pilot and an exit agreement covering counts, stock retrieval, open orders and data export. The strongest selection result is a suitable operating plan with a comparable dated price, rather than a warehouse chosen by floor area or an unsupported national cost ranking.
