Update the historical comparison for the 2026 policy
Commingled versus labeled inventory describes an older FBA decision framework. For US inventory shipped on or after March 31, 2026, Amazon announced the end of commingling and changed manufacturer-barcode eligibility. A current China seller should decide which barcode is permitted, rather than assume that stickerless inventory still means sharing units with other sellers.
The News_Amazon announcement distinguishes Brand Representatives in Brand Registry from resellers. Eligible Brand Representatives can use manufacturer barcodes for products already carrying them; resellers need Amazon barcode stickers, and products without manufacturer barcodes need Amazon stickers. Confirm the actual product and marketplace settings.
Distinguish the barcode from ownership and authenticity
A manufacturer barcode identifies a product type. An Amazon barcode supports Amazon's inventory identification for the applicable seller record. Neither should be described as a standalone guarantee that the product is genuine, safe, or correctly sourced.
Keep supplier authorization, invoices, product identity, and relevant authenticity evidence separately. If the brand uses an item-level authentication program, follow its own requirements and preserve those codes. Attaching an FNSKU does not repair missing authorization to sell another business's branded goods. Resolve questionable sourcing before preparing the shipment.
Also keep batch traceability outside the barcode choice. A product can use the correct barcode while the seller remains unable to identify which manufacturing batch supplied an affected order. Lot controls answer a different question.
Verify the selling role before planning labels
Brand Registry participation and a Brand Representative selling role need precise confirmation. A reseller with access to some brand tools should not assume it has the same barcode eligibility as the required representative role. Record the basis in the prep instruction.
Review the marketplace and product category. A US announcement should not be treated as a complete statement of every other market's implementation. Check the current help and account requirements for the destination rather than reusing an old stickerless inventory guide.
If a product changes listing, condition, bundle configuration, or barcode setting, regenerate the approved work record. Do not keep applying an old label because the physical item looks unchanged.
Translate the decision into warehouse controls
Bind the chosen barcode treatment to the SKU, variant, condition, and label-file version. For Amazon-labeled goods, verify the file against the actual inventory record before application. Clear unused labels between product runs.
For eligible manufacturer-barcode goods, confirm the barcode is correct and readable in the final package. A barcode hidden inside opaque protection cannot serve its intended receiving function. Resolve packaging and label visibility together.
Preserve mandatory product information and separate authentication marks. Scan final prepared units and read back the decoded identity. A scanner beep proves readability, not that the unit matches the purchased variant.
Compare the work saved with the controls still required
Using a manufacturer barcode where eligible can avoid an additional application step, but it does not eliminate receiving checks, product documentation, packaging, or inventory reconciliation. Evaluate the actual work and risk rather than promising a universal fee saving.
Amazon-side US prep and labeling are no longer available in 2026 under the US service notice. Required label work must be arranged upstream. Keep that service change separate from the March barcode-policy change; they are different decisions with different dates.
After receiving, reconcile quantities and investigate identity issues through the current account process. Retain the product reference, approved files, and batch records. The modern best practice is a verified barcode decision connected to the actual selling role and goods, with traceability that remains useful regardless of which permitted barcode is chosen.
