An FBA prep price per unit is meaningful only when the unit and the included tasks are defined. A label-only rate cannot be compared directly with a price that includes inspection, bagging, bundling and carton rebuilding. Freight, import charges and Amazon fees should be shown separately even when one provider coordinates the whole shipment.

Define the charging unit
A unit may mean one product, one multi-piece set or one handling action. If a three-piece bundle is charged per component for inspection and per finished set for packing, the quote needs both quantities. The number of labels printed is not necessarily the number of saleable units.

Calculate prep and landed cost separately
Preparation subtotal equals approved receiving, inspection, labeling, packaging, bundling, carton work and related material charges. Divide by the agreed number of prepared saleable units. Record whether rejected or quarantined products are included in that denominator.
A delivered-to-FBA budget then adds transport, export handling, import clearance, applicable duties and taxes, and final delivery. Amazon's own account, placement, storage or other applicable fees belong in the seller's model, not invisibly inside a warehouse labor rate. Avoid counting a delivery leg twice when a freight quotation already includes it.
A useful comparison exercise
Send two providers the same sample SKU and ask each to identify:
- The tasks required for the actual destination marketplace.
- The normal charge and its unit of measurement.
- Included packing materials and allowed tolerances.
- The price of approved rework and who authorizes it.
- Minimum invoice or project charges, if any.
- Freight assumptions and quotation validity.
- Evidence supplied when the work is complete.
Compare the resulting total for an identical batch. A lower label price can still produce a higher total if receiving, storage and carton replacement are additional. Conversely, a comprehensive service may include work your already-prepared product does not need.
Reduce avoidable work at the factory
Provide approved barcode files and a packing sample before production is finished. Ask the supplier to keep variants separated and cartons identified. Check whether changing a retail pack will affect dimensions or require another label placement approval.
Do not eliminate protective materials solely to reduce prep cost. The useful question is whether a change preserves product protection and current Amazon requirements. A smaller package that causes more damage is not necessarily a saving.

Keep the invoice auditable
Reconcile quoted quantities, completed quantities, materials consumed and approved exceptions. Record changes to scope before work, not after the shipment leaves. Separate an operating target from a guaranteed completion date and from the carrier's estimated transit.

Is labeling included in every FBA prep quotation?
No. Confirm whether the price includes printing, applying labels, removing conflicting barcodes where required and scan checks.
Does no order minimum mean no minimum fee?
No. Those are different commercial terms. Ask about minimum billing, storage and project setup separately.
Should I compare the lowest price per unit?
Compare the total for the same approved work and the evidence supplied. A headline unit price alone omits important differences.
Can an estimate be used as a final invoice?
Only if the parties have agreed its scope and terms. Changes in quantities, packaging or exceptions should be reconciled.
