European FBA has more requirements than US FBA

Amazon's European marketplaces layer additional requirements on top of the standard FBA preparation: CE marking for regulated products, EPR registration numbers for packaging and WEEE, country-specific language requirements on labels, and VAT/EORI documentation for customs.

A China prep provider should confirm which requirements apply to each SKU and marketplace before work begins. A US FBA prep checklist is not sufficient for European shipments.

CE marking and product compliance

Products sold in the EU and UK may require CE or UKCA marking, a Declaration of Conformity, and technical files. The prep warehouse does not establish compliance, but it should verify that the required marks are present and legible before labeling and packing.

If a product lacks the required compliance marks, the warehouse should hold it and escalate to the seller. Shipping non-compliant products risks customs seizure and marketplace suspension.

EPR and packaging registration

Germany, France and other EU countries require Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration for packaging, WEEE, and batteries. Amazon may request EPR numbers before allowing listings. The seller is responsible for registration; the warehouse should confirm that the numbers are available before preparing the shipment.

Packaging labels in Germany must include the Grüner Punkt or LUCID registration number where applicable. France requires Triman labeling on many product categories.

Language requirements on labels

Product safety information, warnings, and user instructions may need to appear in the language of the destination country. Germany requires German, France requires French, and the UK requires English. The prep warehouse should confirm which languages are required for each SKU before applying labels.

Amazon FBA does not enforce language requirements, but customs authorities and consumer protection laws do.

FBA inbound to European fulfillment centers

European FBA shipments may go to a single country or be distributed across multiple fulfillment centers through Amazon's placement service. The prep warehouse should follow the current shipment plan exactly, including the destination country, carrier selection, and label placement.

Post-Brexit, UK and EU shipments are separate customs territories. A shipment to Amazon UK cannot transit through the EU without proper customs documentation, and vice versa.
