Configure fulfillment before polishing the storefront
A Shopify store for China dropshipping needs a reliable connection between what the customer buys and what a supplier can ship. Start with products, variants, locations, and order handling. A visually finished theme cannot compensate for an incorrect SKU mapping or a shipping service that excludes the customer's address.
Choose a small initial catalog that you can sample and document. For every variant, record the supplier SKU, store SKU, packed measurements, available shipping lanes, compliance documents, and return handling. Avoid importing a large supplier catalog before checking whether its claims and photographs can lawfully be reused.
Give locations and inventory a real meaning
Create fulfillment locations that correspond to the businesses holding or dispatching stock. Decide which location can fulfill each product and how unavailable stock is represented. Do not use an arbitrary large quantity to make an unreliable supplier feed appear permanently available.
Shopify's shipping and fulfillment setup guidance describes the location and routing controls available in its administration. Use the current documentation for the store's configuration, then test the outcome. A rule's name is less important than where an actual order is assigned.
Bundles require extra attention. If a set contains two separately stocked products, confirm how component availability is calculated and whether both can ship together. The product page should not imply a single package when the chosen fulfillment arrangement produces separate parcels.
Choose the integration according to its operational scope
A supplier app can synchronize products and orders, but its capabilities differ from those of a warehouse-management connection. Check whether it supports stock reservations, partial fulfillment, cancellations, address changes, tracking updates, and order exports. Ask how failed transfers become visible to staff.
Shopify also documents custom fulfillment services, which can send order details by email. This is a different arrangement from a fully synchronized app. If you choose it, provide a separate confirmation and reconciliation procedure rather than assuming inventory and tracking are automatically synchronized.
Limit app permissions to the work the app performs. Remove unused apps and obsolete staff access. Customer addresses should be shared with the fulfillment parties that need them, with the relevant privacy information made available to customers.
Set shipping rules around the packed order
Configure the destinations you can actually serve. Test a single item, a multi-item basket, an oversized product, and an excluded address. Check whether combining products changes the shipping charge or creates a service that the supplier cannot book.
Use packed dimensions and weight, including protective materials. Supplier product weight may exclude the retail box and mailing package. Decide how duties and taxes are presented and who is responsible for them on each supported route; do not add a universal “tax included” message without a working arrangement behind it.
Write processing and transport information separately. Customers should understand when an item is expected to leave the supplier and what the subsequent delivery estimate covers. Show a current refund policy and explain how returns are handled, rather than copying another store's local return address.
Keep the theme informative and light
On the product page, prioritize clear photographs, variant identification, dimensions, materials, included components, and relevant warnings. State limitations that could change a purchase decision. A compact size diagram is often more useful than several promotional badges.
Check the complete mobile journey, including variant selectors, delivery information, policy links, and checkout. Avoid features that conceal long descriptions, create horizontal scrolling, or imply stock urgency without reliable inventory data. Use only tracking and marketing features you can configure responsibly.
Place legitimate test orders before accepting public traffic. Test a successful order, a refund, an out-of-stock line, a cancellation, and a tracking update. Read the resulting records in both Shopify and the supplier system. Launch when the workflow can explain and recover from those cases, rather than when the homepage merely looks complete.
